The first race of the third racing day at the 2006 Asia Pacific Laser Championship started with light winds averaging 7 knots. The late afternoon breeze continued to allow the Race Officers to run two races for both the Laser Standard and Radial classes. Due to the erratic weather conditions experienced the past few days, raising the AP (postponement) flag has now become a routine of the day.
Singapore’s Koh Seng Leong is climbing up slowly to the top of the podium scoring a first in Race 5. A wise decision at the startline gained him a lead advantage which he maintained throughout the race. Seng Leong who missed out the SEA Games last year due to a road accident injury is recovering steadily, he said, “I’m still trying to get used to sailing the full rig and getting back in sync with the boat is my top priority.” His replacement at the SEA Games, Maximillian Soh is in second position on a tie with Japan’s Hiroshi Maeda.
Malaysian Mohd Romzi recovered from a mediocre performance in Race 5 to gain second place in Race 6, he sits comfortably at the top of the leader board with 12 points. Singapore’s Colin Cheng gained good points to jump to second place with Lo Man Yi trailing by two points at third position.
